Rosa Barba / David Maljkovic It's gonna happen Exhibition:
February 11 - March 11 2006 "It's gonna happen" is a meeting point for two works, namely a 16 mm film of the same name by Rosa Barba and "Again for Tomorrow" by David Maljkovic: an installation that is being continuously developed and adapted site-specifically - in this case for the space of croy nielsen. Barba's film breaks up and subverts the unity of narrative, image and sound. We listen to a phone call between a president and his collaborator, who are planning an unspecified coup. The images consist of subtitles, only, describing a city in the typical language of a film script. Maljkovic's installation "Again for Tomorrow" builds fictional stories in the various locations it inhabits. In this case it becomes a host for (or a parasite of) Barba's story, incorporating it in its structure and creating a new genesis "It's gonna happen" and "Again for tomorrow" meet at the point in which the future becomes a black hole and creates new possibilities. It inflicts a parallel life on the content of the works and their inherent problems are placed in a new time-frame: the space of the future. Barba and Maljkovic met at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam in 2003 and this is their first joint solo exhibition. Barba has a current solo exhibition at Badischer Kunstverein in Karlsruhe, and from spring Maljkovic will have a residency at Kunst Werke, Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin.
